Class this week: We are learning about the differences in certain types of cells: prokaryotes vs eukaryotes, bacteria vs plant or animal cells, and plant vs animal cells. We are also studying the organelles and parts that make up individual cells. What are they? Where are they? What do they do? How do they contribute to life functions? Quiz your child on all the crazy named parts. See if they can correctly pronounce the names of the least familiar words. I will pass out progress reports on Monday, 3/2. Please sign and return.

Ask your child about the meat and maggots experiment and what it helped disprove! (This is a great connection to the Age of Enlightenment in SS.) Also, see if your child can talk about the common set of characteristics that all life forms (on Earth?) have.

This week, we will finally finish our study of weather by taking the Quarterly Assessment on Monday and Tuesday. (Students will see it Monday and then finish it Tuesday.) Next up? CELLS! Have you thought about what characteristics all living organisms exhibit in order to qualify as being alive? We will investigate the characteristics of life and different types of cells this week.
