Class this week: We are continuing to collect daily weather data from Raleigh, NYC, and Sao Paulo. Students are analyzing the data for patterns and comparing and contrasting the data at different latitudes and in the N and S hemispheres. Ask your child about the "Eggcellent Eggsperiment." They should be able to tell you how it demonstrated that air pressure flows from high to low.
Table of Contents: Weather Patterns (See Table of Contents link for copies of most documents referred to in the HW below!) Resources for Atmosphere Unit HW = Homework WU = Warm Ups Monday, 12/17 HW: Turn in missing vocabulary sheets "Weather Patterns" WU: Page A45 - A47 in yellow textbook. 1.Read page A45 and explain how air moves due to air pressure. 2.What instrument do we use to measure air pressure? 3.Read page A47 and explain how air moves due to air pressure and temperature. Tuesday, 12/18 HW: Turn in missing vocabulary sheets "Weather Patterns." Bring in peeled, hard boiled eggs for tomorrow. WU: 1.Copy and complete this statement: Air moves from areas of _____ pressure to areas of _____ pressure. 2.Look at the barometers on A46. Which is more likely to be on a mountain? Explain. 3.Explain how uneven heating of the Earth causes wind. Wednesday, 12/19 HW: None WU: Chapter A2, Section 2. Starts on page A47 1.Explain (or draw a diagram with labels) why the poles are colder than the equator. 2.How does Earth’s rotation influence global winds? 3.Why is air warmer over land during the day and warmer over water at night? Thursday, 12/20 HW: None WU: Every time Olga takes a hot shower, she notices that the shower curtain is “pushed” into the shower while the curtain is closed. When she turns off the shower or opens the curtain, it hangs straight again. Explain what happens to the shower curtain in terms of temperature and pressure. Friday, 12/21 HW: Have a wonderful break!!! WU: None Class this week: We are starting to collect daily weather data from 3 different cities to show differences in weather patterns by latitude and hemisphere. Ask your child about the season in which Brazilians celebrate December holidays! We are also learning about global wind patterns. Ask your child what global wind belt we live in and what we call it.

WU: WU: Collect daily weather data on the "Track Weather Like a Meteorologist" sheet. Class this week: This week we are wrapping up our study of the atmosphere with an in-class air pollution project. Ask your child about the large model they made of the layers of the atmsophere and of the WANTED poster they created for an air pollutant.
