Class this week:
We will interrupt our regularly scheduled unit on work and energy to prepare and take the Q1 Quarterly Assessment for science on 10/31. Students will take it online through SchoolNet on NC EdCloud. They will not be allowed to retake this test, so we need to stay focused and study hard! I will prepare review materials that we will work on in class and at home on Tuesday and Wednesday before the test. The QA will cover Forces, Motion, and Energy. The grade will count on Q2. Table of Contents: Work and Energy - These papers should currently be organized in your binder! Resources and online textbook: Work and Energy HW = Homework WU = Warm Ups Lost your Warm Up Sheet? No problem. Print one here. Warm Up Sheet Next Quiz or Test: Q1 QUARTERLY ASSESSMENT (QA/Benchmark) (No re-takes), Thursday, 10/31. Monday, 10/28 HW: Review any old materials in your binder for the upcoming QA. WU: 1. How are potential and kinetic energy related to mechanical energy? 2. What happens to the total amount of energy when energy is transformed from one form to another? Is it lost? Does it disappear? 3. Think of a skateboarder on a halfpipe. Where is the Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy of the skateboarder the highest and lowest? Tuesday, 10/29 HW: Review the questions on your Q1 QA Review sheets that we completed today in class. WU: Chapter D1 – Relative Motion! 1.What information do you need to know in order to tell whether an object has moved or not? 2.If you are in a moving vehicle, what objects appear to be moving and not moving? 3.If you are in a moving vehicle, describe what the speed of a vehicle moving in the opposite direction might look like. Wednesday, 10/30 HW: HW: Review the questions on your Q1 QA Review sheets that we completed today in class. WU: 1.How much work is done when a heavy box is pushed using a 20 N force across a room a distance of 5 meters? Use w=fd 2.Briefly sketch a graph that shows an object gradually increasing its speed over time. 3.Briefly sketch a graph that shows an object that travels away from home very quickly, pauses for a while, then travels back home very, very slowly. Thursday, 10/31 HW: None! WU: 1.Label one box kinetic energy. 2.Label the middle box potential energy. 3.Classify the following terms as one of the above: thermal, light, mechanical, chemical, sound, gravitational, nuclear, electrical. Friday, 11/1 - No school, teacher work day and parent conferences. Comments are closed.
