Class this week: We will work on some hands-on activities with air pressure, Coriolis Effect, cloud formation, and the angle of the sun's rays. There will be a test on Chapter A2, Weather Patterns, next week. Ask your child about the egg in the bottle later this week. Also, ask your child about what new thing we are doing with Warm Up questions!
Weather Patterns Unit Table of Contents Resources Blank Warm Up Sheet HW = Homework WU = Warm Ups Next Test or Quiz: TEST, Weather Patterns, Week of 1/13. Exact date TBA. Monday, 1/6 HW: Get Science Progress Report Signed. Finish any missing work and turn in ASAP before it becomes a zero and brings your grade down. WU: 1.Draw and label 4 main cloud types. A60 2.Compare and contrast sleet and freezing rain. Where do they freeze? A68 3.COOL DOWN: Explain how clouds and precipitation move water through the water cycle. Include changes in state of matter. Tuesday, HW: Finish precipitation, cloud, and water cycle diagrams. WU: 1.A49: What is the Coriolis effect? 2.A49: Which way do winds curve in the northern hemisphere? 3.A48, Bottom section: How does the angle of the sun’s rays affect the heating of the earth? Wednesday, HW: Finish precipitation, cloud, and water cycle diagrams. WU: 1.A48: What factor determines the strength of wind? Explain how stronger winds are created. 2.A53: What are mountain and valley breezes and when do they occur? 3.A54: How are monsoons like a local wind and a global wind? Explain. Thursday, HW: Finish precipitation, cloud, and water cycle diagrams. WU: 1.What did the paper and rotation in yesterday’s “The Right Way” stand for in reality? 2.What did the line on the paper in “The Right Way” stand for in reality? 3.Explain why the title of this activity is “The Right Way” as it relates to the Coriolis Effect. What double meaning can you find? Friday, HW: Finish Tracking Weather questions on back. WU: 1.Every time Olga takes a hot shower, she notices that the shower curtain is “pushed” into the shower while the curtain is closed. When she opens the curtain, it hangs straight again. Explain what happens to the shower curtain in terms of temperature and pressure. 2.What are two patterns we have noticed by tracking the weather in the 3 cities? 3.What is the relationship between the dew point, temperature, humidity, and weather?
